17th Annual Safar Symposium

April 22nd - April 23rd, 2019


The Safar Symposium is a two-day multi-departmental research conference held jointly by the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research and the Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation Education and Research (WISER) in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The program for the 17th Annual Safar Symposium will begin with a series of lectures focusing on neuroprotection and neurotoxicity in the developing brainThe event will feature both national and local experts presenting exciting new findings in their respective fields, including investigations spanning bench to bedside. 

Linked to the program, the Peter & Eva Safar Annual Lectureship in Medical Sciences and Humanities will follow at noon, and will be presented by David G. Nichols, MD, MBA, President and CEO of The American Board of Pediatrics. His lecture is entitled " Complex Chronic Illness - Who will care? Who will cure?"

The afternoon of the first day of the Symposium will feature our annual Multi-Departmental Trainees’ Research Day, with oral and poster presentations by trainees from the Departments of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Neurological Surgery, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  

Day two of the program will be held at the Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation, Education, and Research (WISER). This year’s program is titled: "WISER -25 Years of Simulation Excellence." Please see the preliminary program for more details on both days of the Safar Symposium.
